Cotton Eye Candy

Cotton Eye Candy is a project which was created as a submission for the InfoVis 2006 conference. InfoVis 2006 focused on how information could be visualized from an artistic standpoint and stressed aesthetic and innovative qualities.

Our contribution, Cotton Eye Candy, worked with the complex of problems surrounding the use of a shared laundry room in an apartment building. The idea was that Cotton Eye Candy should be used as a piece on the wall in the apartments, this way the tenants could monitor their laundry without having to visit the laundry room.

Information that we found of particular interest to visualize included bookings, position in the laundry queue, the timespace, the timespan of a laundry session. For our visualization we used metaphores from a clothesline, garments on the line represented bookings, bad weather represented a missed appointed time and so on.
